According to the International Energy Agency statistics, there has been a 5% increase in global electricity demand in 2021, half of which is being met by fossil fuels, notably coal. The sharp rise in the use of fossil fuels to generate electricity is expected to push carbon dioxide emission levels to record highs in 2022.
